  1. Dear Emily, I should have written as soon as I read this particular ‘Art and Theology’ mailing, but got distracted… !

    Many years ago, one of my dearest friends (who sadly and unbelievably died ten years ago) introduced me to the work of Ernst Barlach. Eric was German and very well read on all things German and Swiss; we shared so much together. He was the only person who ever seemed aware of him and I have never met anyone else who knows of him. I, too, had forgotten all about him; but your mailing reminded me of Ernst Barlach, and so of Eric. Thank you so much for reviving this double memory.
